COASTAL ELEGANCE EMERGES WITH OUR VERSATILE FLOOR COVERINGS

In 2021, in collaboration with DIALOG, we started one of our largest projects, designing custom floor coverings for the Goldwynn Resort & Residences in the Bahamas. Our work encompassed the guest suites, master suites, corridors, atrium, lobby, restaurant, and banquet areas. We produced a range of techniques using a variety of fibres for the project, crafting harmonious floor coverings that enhanced the resort’s magnificence and relaxing ambiance.

WHERE SAND MEETS OCEAN

Atrium at Goldwynn Resort & Residences, Bahamas

The design concept captures the delicate yet powerful moment where sand meets the ocean, symbolizing the timeless and serene intersection of land and sea shaped by the ever-changing tides. This concept is seen throughout the designs, beautifully integrating natural aesthetics and materials, drawing inspiration from the resort’s coastal elegance. Each rug design features a beautiful mix of blues and taupes, with textures that echo the natural charm of the beach.

Ana Cunningham, Creative Matters’ Managing Partner, shared, "We aimed to create designs that not only reflect the stunning seaside setting but also enhance the overall guest experience." The final result is a harmonious atmosphere that perfectly aligns with the resort’s distinctive environment.

GUEST SUITES REFINED COMFORT

Guest Suite at Goldwynn Resort & Residences, Bahamas

The guest rooms at the Goldwynn encapsulate the essence of modern sophistication and coastal serenity. Designed with a minimalist approach that emphasizes texture and natural beauty, these rugs feature organic pebble shapes and a soothing palette of natural tones, with shades of blue and taupe. The rugs incorporate a subtle texture, featuring a pile height of 2mm, consistent with the suite’s fabrics and finishes.

Crafted in India using PET to withstand humid environments, this material offered durability while preserving the look and feel of natural tones. Kayla Bortolotto, our Senior Designer & Brand Manager further explains, “Made from old recycled water bottles, PET is water resistant and performs very well in climates with high humidity.” A total of 140 guest room rugs and 26 master suite rugs in various sizes and shapes were created.

CORRIDORS: CONTEMPORARY LAYOUTS

Corridors at Goldwynn Resort & Residences, Bahamas

The Goldwynn's corridors feature custom carpeting that seamlessly reflects the suite’s design, incorporating a sophisticated mid-century modern style. The corridor design showcases a blend of blues and rounded geometrics layered with a scattered linear texture, achieving a softer look that complements the design of the guest suite area rugs. With the complexity of the corridors’ curved layout in mind, we customized the rug design to ensure a cohesive flow. Covering five floors, the woven Axminster carpeting machine made in China, was meticulously tailored to maintain a smooth flow and consistent appearance, to embrace the corners and curves of the architecture.

ATRIUM AND LOBBY RUGS EXUDES RICH TEXTURE

Lobby at Goldwynn Resort & Residences, Bahamas

The atrium and lobby rugs at the Goldwynn are handtufted in Thailand using New Zealand wool including a chunky felted yarn, applied as a loop pile that added rich texture and depth. The atrium rug was designed as an inset piece, fitted into a well, whereas an area rug was crafted for the lobby. The lobby rug’s finished edges and loop pile contribute to a plush look, creating a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere that complements the resort’s elegant design.

LAYERED SHAPED RUG FOR GOLDWYNN RESTAURANT

                                                                                Restaurant rug design

In the restaurant at the Goldwynn, a handtufted shaped rug made in Thailand crafted from 100% wool displays an array of grey tones and a dynamic design. Lauren Mead, Creative Matters’ designer shared, “The rug's varying pile heights — achieved through a combination of cut and loop techniques, created an illusion of multiple rugs layered on top of each other. This design added texture and visual interest, harmonizing with the soft shapes and patterns found throughout our other designs for the project.” Each element of the rug contributes to the interior aesthetic that ties together the serene ambiance of the resort.

ELEGANT BANQUET CARPET DESIGN

A close-up look at the banquet design

In the banquet area, the woven Axminster carpeting machine made in China, is customized to feature a refined palette with solid and barber pole patterns. We used a defined range of colours and minimal blends to maintain a clean and sophisticated look. The softer look and elegant design of the floor covering complements the other rugs and carpeting we produced for the resort.

The Goldwynn Resort & Residences opened its doors in the spring of 2023, Kayla shared, “We focused on creating a story—from the colour palette and yarn fibres to the design elements. Through collaboration with many team members, we created and coordinated designs that have a cohesive narrative."

Ana added, " Even with the success of this project, we of course encountered some challenges along the way, but we embraced them, and our team is dedicated to tackling these challenges and delivering outstanding results." We are proud to have collaborated with DIALOG on this magnificent project.
